Use It Wisely

Horse Waterers

Automatic horse waterers save water but some horses can’t get enough to drink from them.  Horses need to wash out their mouths and need a bigger container than most automatic waterers provide.  However, some manufacturers are making larger containers with automatic filling devices.

Algae Control

Large troughs give horses a lot of water to drink and are generally preferable from the horses point of view but they can be plagued with algae problems.  Remember that the larger the tank the more the potential for algae.  Use the smallest tank that works for your horse.  Try using some fish to keep the algae population down.  If that doesn’t work, try power washing or steam cleaning, and avoid chemical algaecides.  A new eco-friendly product is Krystal Trough.
